The OKC Dentist Talks about Dental Emergencies

Life happens, and when it comes to dental emergencies it’s important to see your dentist as soon as possible. Many dentists will take time out of their schedules in order to deal with dental emergencies. It’s also important to note when calling your dentist you provide as much information about the incident and the injury as you can, this will allow your dentist to be better prepared for your specific case.

Next are some common dental emergencies that we see at OKC Dentist.

What can I do if my tooth gets knocked out?

Answer: If it’s a permanent or an adult tooth you’ll want to keep it moist. If you’re able you’ll want to try placing the tooth back in its socket without touching the root. If that’s not possible we recommend placing it in your mouth between the gum and cheek. Lastly, you can put it in milk or if you have it available the ADA has several tooth preservation products that it recommends. Make sure you go to your dentist asap.

What can I do if my child knocks out their tooth?

The best thing to do is find the tooth, keep it moist and get the toot and the child to the dentist. Once there your dentist can evaluate whether the whole tooth came out. Your dentist will also be able to determine if the tooth can be implanted again.

What to do if my tooth is cracked?

First thing will be to rinse your mouth with warm water in order to keep the area clean. Next, you’ll need to keep the swelling down, a cold compress can accomplish this. Last, and most importantly, get to your dentist.

How can I fix a toothache?

You’ll want to clean the area, so rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it out. Next use dental floss to clean any debris around the affected area. The OKC Dentist recommend that you do NOT apply aspirin to the tooth or gum as it may burn the bum tissue. If the issue persists see your dentist.
