It burns, it stings, but it also helps fight gum disease. The OKC Dentist lays out why you should mouthwash.
Most people brush their teeth at least once a day, either at morning or night. Some people brush 2-3 times a day, and some people even take the time to floss. But how many of you rinse with mouthwash on nights you don’t have a date or before an important meeting? Most people think that mouthwash is just for fresh breath but it’s actually should be an important part of your dental routine. Pinnacle Dental, OKC dentist, explains why this is the case.
Whenever you brush your teeth, your not getting all of your teeth clean. Brushing actually misses much of the surface area of your teeth, specifically the areas below the gum line and between the teeth. That’s why your dentist is always telling you to floss, to get those areas where your brush can’t get. Mouthwash can also help get those areas your brush can’t reach, between the teeth and under the gum line. Mouthwash doesn’t just kill germs that cause bad breath either, it kills the germs that can lead to all sorts of gum disease as well. In addition, it’s important to do this regularly because mouthwash won’t stop bad breath that results from tooth decay and gum disease. Mouthwash can however, help stop these diseases before they happen. Mouthwash by itself won’t replace flossing, but it can make flossing more effective.
Remember to follow the direction carefully when swishing mouthwash and never swallow. If you find alcoholic mouthwash is drying your mouth and causing sores to form, consider switching to a non-alcoholic mouthwash. And remember, seeing your dentist twice a year for cleanings and screenings should also be apart of your dental routine. Give Pinnacle Dental, OKC Dentist, a call today at 405-622-5612!
